that your day is just going to suck? I had a final today in a class that is required for graduation-a research methods class. Now, I've had 4 years of school already pre-army, marriage, etc, and didn't finish my music degree. Mom got sick and other stuff just got in the way. Somewhere in there I discovered that making music because you love it doesn't pay bills so a long meandering path brought me to Doane. Ive written a few papers in there and even tried to opt out, figuring that, at 30, I'd be able to submit a portfolio or something. Yeah right. The instructor is a former addict, pain killers and alcohol, I believe. The down side is that he somehow manages to bring it up in every one of his classes. I think he is a great instructor, but I don't care about his personal life and I REALLY don't like the inspirational AA type stuff that he brings into the lecture at times.
That was the class. I hadn't studied the 50 terms on the final at all because I was editing a purpose statement and sub questions for the final project-a mock paper. It would have been easier to just write the damn thing rather than coming up with a thesis and sub Q without knowing if its even a viable subject. I did manage to ace the Final test, so....
HERES to ME. 5 more classes to go-6 if I retake one for a better grade.
yeah, im boring, I know.

MySpace Photo Costs Teacher Education Degree - Offbeat

MySpace Photo Costs Teacher Education Degree
What can I say? A Millersville, PA student teacher told on the eve of graduation that she would be getting an English degree instead of a teaching degree because of her 'unprofessional conduct' and 'promotion of underage drinking'. This evidenced by a Myspace page picture of her dressed as a pirate holding a plastic cup of an unidentifiable substance (or possibly empty) and sporting the picture caption of "Drunken Pirate". WTF? She was 25 at the time, hardly promoting underage drinking. The sheer unprofessional ism of this astounds me-teachers aren't supposed to relax? Drink alcohol? Quite frankly, im lost as to whom this is supposed to offend since most schools block Myspace along with other domains from being accessed on school computers. Never the less, here we are-look hard, the Nanny State beckons to you. Granted, the schools official response is that they make their decisions on a wide range of academic performance issues, but if she was in danger of losing her teaching credentials they would have told her weeks or months prior and moved her from the program then. I know, i've seen it happen. When a student teacher is unfit for whatever reason they are reassigned or removed from the program so they can complete a complimentary major without the education requirements. Its not as if she is dancing sky clad in her back yard during an orgiastic Bacchanal or standing in the 'gay lobby' preying on our children. (visitors, please note the tongue in cheek, here)
The suit points out that Snyder was on the dean's list and she completed her student-teaching requirements in 2006 at a local high school, and that in a letter dated February 6, 2006, Millersville's acting dean congratulated Snyder as "one of [MU's] finest student scholars." It was one of her advisors on that job at Conestoga Valley High School who saw the MySpace picture and called Snyder at home on May 8 to tell her there was an "issue" they had to discuss, according to the lawsuit. [snip]
In a final student evaluation, Girvin gave Snyder "superior" or "competent" ratings in all areas except "professionalism," where he tagged her as "unsatisfactory." He wrote that there were "errors in judgment that relate to Pennsylvania's Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators." Girvin, however, did not give any specific examples of these alleged code violations. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1558467/20070501/id_0.jhtml:

Millersville PA, this ones for you. Congratulations on reinforcing the stereotype that teachers are some sort of subclass of human being that is denied the same outlets for relaxation that anyone else is allowed just because they have to remain pure so Johnny can read.
